Zoe Atterbury - Assistant Instructor

Zoe Atterbury

A childhood of splendid isolation surrounded by the fields and woods of Dorset has taught Zoe a huge love and respect for being outdoors.  Influenced by books such as Swallows & Amazons and anything by Enid Blyton she leads a romantic but slightly feral existence in a yurt in the corner of a field having tried being a grown up and deciding it wasn’t for her.

Completing a degree in Education Studies with a view to becoming a teacher, a contrary nature got the better of her and she put her teaching knowledge to good use to find work teaching Forest School and school camp-outs at an outdoor education centre. This now allows her to remind children how to play outdoors and get muddy, which is really just and excuse for her to play outdoors and get muddy.

Her belief is that the environment is intrinsic to mankind’s existence and learning to live with nature in a respectful but pleasurable way gives meaning to life. Bushcraft is where learning and teaching are synonymous and this constant exploration is what she loves. Her passion within this dizzyingly huge subject is, so far, the craft side of bushcraft, but who knows what else may develop?

Zoe is currently working hard to increase her already impressive bushcraft knowledge and skill base as an assistant instructor for Wilderness Survival Skills. Incredibly dedicated and committed, you're bound to have the pleasure of her company if you come and spend time with us on a course.

Special skill:  Friend and saviour of the badger community.
