Primitive ToolsIf you have a good working knowledge of bushcraft then your most important piece of equipment is your knife. With a strong, sharp blade almost everything else needed to survive can be crafted from the land around you. But what if you didn’t have a knife? During this two day course, flint knapping expert, John Lord will show you how to take a flint nodule and turn it into a variety of sharp tools. There will also be time to make a handle for your flint axe, shafts for your flint arrow heads and even hides for making a sheath for your flint knife.

Over the weekend you will learn:

  • Stone selection
  • Percussion flaking
  • Core blade removal
  • Pressure flaking
  • Blade hafting
  • Natural glues and bindings
  • Using and maintaining sharp cutting toolsFlint Adze
  • Campfire cooking
  • Applying plasters

The course will take place in a fixed woodland camp with plenty of covered and lit areas to carry on tool making in bad weather or after dark. All meals will be provided and everyone will get the chance to do a bit of back country cooking over the campfire. There will be instructors on hand throughout to give advice and help when needed.
