Wilderness Awakening Part 2 - Advanced Crafts

Weaving a willow fishtrap

A continuation of our five day WIlderness Awakening, this course takes you several steps further towards your aim of self sufficiency in the wilderness.  Six days at our Wiltshire woodland site building on the skills you have already learnt whilst learning some important new ones.

Your first day will be spent using your previously honed shelter building experiences to build a comfortable home for the week, complete with beds, fireplace and door.  Following on from the Wilderness Awakening, your cooking fire must be lit on day one using the bow drill and natural tinder.  Then follows five days of advanced bushcraft, working flint to make tools and weapons, large game preparation, preserving meat in the wild, primitive cooking techniques, advanced carving and axe work, hide working and making buckskin and weaving willow and other hedgerow materials to make baskets and fishtraps.  You will also have time to learn about the local, seasonal foraging opportunities and will be expected to build gathered wild food into your diet providing and excellent opportunity to develop those skills in the right environment and with the right guidance.

Bow drill is the only fire lighting method allowed

When combined with the Wilderness Awakening, these six days in the woods give you a wealth of practical experience and the knowledge to provide everything you need from the natural world.  This is an advanced course requiring a 'can do' attitude from start to finish (even in bad weather).  It involves hard work from the outset and experience of living and working outdoors is vital therefore we insist that you must have already completed our five day Wilderness Awakening or a similar course of the same duration and content with a reputable company.
